In 2006 a contest was held to name the new polar bear design to appear on the 10th anniversary $2 coin.
The name “Churchill” was the winner.
The “Churchill” coin was struck at both the Winnipeg and Ottawa Mints. The coins from the Winnipeg Mint, which are the circulation issue, have the “Pixie” polar bear ear. The coins from the Ottawa Mint have the normal ear, and were issued in the 2006 Special Edition Uncirculated Set and 2006 Concept Test Token Set.
