WILDLIFE SERIES

The Canadian Wood Bison coin is the sixth and final coin released in the Royal Canadian Mint’s “Canadian Wildlife Series” program.

Investors can now order the sixth and final installment in the Royal Canadian Mint’s Wildlife Series, the Canadian Silver Bison. The second coin in Canada’s Wildlife Series to be unveiled in 2013, the Canadian Wood Bison contains One Troy Ounce of .9999 Fine Silver—making it one of the purest silver bullion coins on earth.

The coin’s reverse features a Wood Bison donning a thick winter coat and trudging through the snow with a grove of evergreens behind him. It is inscribed with the words 9999 FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR and the initials ED, honoring designer Emily S. Damstra—who also designed the Silver Pronghorn Antelope.

The obverse of each 2013 Canadian Silver Wood Bison features Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, along with the inscriptions 5 DOLLARS, ELIZABETH II and 2013.

Prior to the 1 oz Silver Wood Bison, the Royal Canadian Mint issued five Wildlife Series designs, including a wolf, grizzly bear, cougar, moose and pronghorn antelope. The Wood Bison is one of the most iconic mammals in North America, even featured on the province of Manitoba’s official flag.
