The word tögrög (төгрөг) refers to “circle”, or a “circular object” (i.e. a coin), but now is rarely used outside of referring to the currency, with the exception of the phrase tögrög sar (төгрөг сар), meaning “full moon”.

The sensational mints of the Mongolian Endangered Wildlife coin series have gained great popularity since its start in 2007. The issue dated 2011 contains an image of Ural Owl, a species with very particular face disc shape that inhabits many forests in Central Asia. The artwork of the designers is unbelievably beautiful– they managed to develop mints that give you the feel of a real animal.

Represented on the obverse is the classical Mongolian mint depicting the emblem of the country’s national bank and a range of inscriptions. The legends on this side explain the formal value of the coin, the name of the country where it was issued, the weight and the rate of silver purity. Note that the item is made of pure .999 silver, and its total mintage is only 2.500 pieces.

When you turn the coin around, you will understand that it is a real work of art worth its price. The stunning mint transmits the delicate relief of the bird’s body. It might even seem like you are holding a real predator in your hands. This side is encrusted with two Swarovski stones that take the place of the owl’s eyes. The perfect shine and composition are completed by several inscriptions that stand for the name of the animal species depicted, the title of the series and the year of issues.
