IN 1964 THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT DECIDED TO INTRODUCE A MORE MATURE PORTRAIT OF QUEEN ELIZABETH FOR DOMESTIC AND COMMONWEALTH COINAGES.

THE NEW PORTRAIT MODEL, BY ARNOLD MACHIN, FEATURES THE QUEEN WEARING A TIARA INSTEAD OF A LAUREL WREATH.  A COPY OF THE MODEL WAS FORWARDED TO CANADA AND INCORPORATED INTO THE OBVERSES FOR 1965

1965 OBVERSE VARIETIES : 1)SMALL BEADS A OF REGINA POINTS BETWEEN THE BEADS 2) LARGE BEADS A OF REGINA POINTS AT THE BEAD

1965 REVERSE VARIETIES : 1)POINTED 5 – SCARCER VARIETY 2) BLUNT 5

THESE VARIETIES RESULTED IN 4 DIFFERENT VARIETIES : #1 SBP5 (SMALL BEADS, POINTED 5) #2 SBB5 (SMALL BEADS, BLUNT 5) #3 LBB5 (LARGE BEADS BLUNT 5) #4 LBP5 (LARGE BEADS POINTED 5).  THE RAREST VARIETY IS #4, FOLLOWED BY #1.
